Visitor statistics
We count visits to this site ourselves, without cookies and without any third-party service:
- When a page loads, a small script sends the page's path (for example
/) and the address of the page you came from to our server. Of that address only the site name is kept (for exampleforum.example.org), and only when it is another site. - To count how many different visitors there were on a day, the server computes a hash of your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and a random value that is replaced every day. Only that hash is stored, never the IP address. The random value of a day is thrown away when the day ends, so a stored hash cannot be traced back to an address or linked to your visits on other days.
- Downloads of the game client through this site are counted the same way, per file and day.
- Requests from search engine crawlers and other bots are not counted.
Nothing is stored in your browser for this: no cookies, no local storage. Daily counts are kept; the daily visitor hashes are deleted after 400 days at the latest.
Accounts
If you register, we store your username (which is also your name in the game), chosen pilot face, a hash of your password (never the password itself) and, once registration is open to everyone, your email address. Logging in sets one cookie that keeps you logged in, and every form uses a second cookie against forged requests. Both are needed for the login and are not used for anything else. The list of your logged-in browsers and launchers on your profile shows what we keep about each of them: when it was created and last used, and the browser's or launcher's name.
Login attempts and other requests are counted per IP address and account for a short time to stop password guessing; those counters store a hash of the address and are deleted after a day.
Game servers
When you play, the game server learns your account's id, username and face. What you do in the game (ships, wares, positions) is saved by the game server.
